Have you completely lost your minds!Such games could mostly cause getting your agresion out in the game instead of the real world!I have been playing shooters and violent games or some time now and i havent even though of shooting or otherwise seriusly injuring someone in the real world!The agresivness is mainly caused either by things that happened in the real world either because the parents didnt teach the kids some good behaivior!

# 10 is absolutely true! How do I know? I have the type of epilepsy where seizures are cused by strobe lights. I remember playing Street Fighter 2 in the arcade and shaking violently from the flashing lights in the game.
I also agree with # 8 up to a point. You can spend to much time playing video games. If there was any truth that video games leads to violence, it would have to do with those who cannot distinguish the difference between fantansy and reality.

trash talking=either parents' fault or trying to fit in because they don't want to miserable because kids pick on em for not doing it and then go to video games as a source of expression, outlet of rage, and building creativity, or maybe even learning to keep things in moderation or set goals for the day, or whatever...

Training snipers=wtf? you can't hold a sniper in one hand and condition your mind by video games... Target practice and simulations train snipers.
Personally, I think some video games went WAY too far in gore and bright lights, but they do put little stickers on the box, and they are requried by law to say that Epyleptics (that's right, right?) can get seisures from the game, so why is it such a big deal? The kids should know what their eyes and brains can handle. Also, there are some stubborn people who take one thing, oh say, the kid enjoyed killing people, and turn it into he loves the violence. Being a gamer, I understand where he's coming from. I had a really stressful day once, and killing people got the aggression out :)

I like number 4 I completely agree that M rated games should not be purchased by people under 17 without parent permission. I'm glad to see most stores asking for idea when I go and buy an M rated game. As for the claims that people who are in school shootings train themselves on video games is bull. An FPS doesn't teach you how to hold a gun, for pete sake in most FPS's you are pretty much a walking turret. GUNS DONT AIM AT ONE LOCATION ALL THE TIME!

maplestory doesnt cost money, but NX cash (the points you use to buy items from the cash shop) does cost money, 1000 points per dollar. there are many different items and item prices, but that would be where the money comes in. i used to be an avid maple player till i got into WoW lol ^_^

My only point is:
The reason there is so much negative attention in the media, is because the people inside the industry mostly look at people like Jack Thompson and ignore the issue. The people industry should be more active in the media explaining how incorrect many of these claims are. Also, up till a recent study (published in "Grand Theft Childhood") all previous studies have been mostly bogus. Involving two test groups, one playing a shooter, and one playing a racer (or other non violent game). After 15 of play they gave each person a choice to "hold a button that blast an air horn in someones face."
Very weak evidence. The book "Grand Theft Childhood" was an actual study done over the last 12 years that points out how during the years where the most controversial games came out, those years saw the greatest decrease in violent crime. The book is full of stuff the in my mind, shows that Jack Thompson is an opurtunistic prick who is willing to take advantage of anything in order to keep taking the industry to court. Remember, he is an attorney, he does this because its an easy way to make money. Its our job, and the job of everyone in the game industry to stand up against him and disprove all the things he says.
Epilepsy, sure. Parents should pay more attention to their damned kids! It isn't the content, it is the parents (period). You teach your children that there is a difference between imagination and real world. Did kids in the 1920's not play fake war?
