As far as a midi file, I'd use my iPod. You're missing the point I think. This vid is a demonstration of a musical performance, not a fragfest.

This is an in-game past-time or hobby. Each character must be trained in the use of an instrument and ready it to perform. You can play 3 octaves of notes (including flats & sharps) interactively in real time. You can play songs live manually if you have the talent, or you can group in fellowships and play your pre-arranged music (ABC notation, google it). This vid is an example of the later. Only SWG, that I've experienced, has a music system that players participate in, but LOTRO allows you to actually play a variety of instruments. These include the Lute, Flute, Clarinet, Theorbo (bass lute), Drums, Cowbells, Bagpipes, Horn, Harp, etc. Most classes can learn at least 2 instruments with Minstrels able to learn all 10. In a recent update, Minstrels can also mentor you to teach you other instruments your class doesn't normally play.

All of this variety is just one facet of LOTRO and unique in that regard. Musicians will find this an interesting aside in their MMORPG experience of LOTRO.

I really enjoyed this. I've always wished WoW had some sort of music-making feature like LOTRO and SWG

bman: check the LOTRO forums / music system / ABC notation. There is plenty of discussion and sharing of arrangements there. If you are a musician, you can compose or transpose sheet music for play by your LOTRO character. Some folks even arrange multipart harmonies like this one from Durinsbane of Meneldor server.

bman: This is one facet of LOTRO that doesn't exist in WoW. There IS so much more in the game, but 10 min video limits = focused subject matter. As I have time for it, I'll try to show off more about the game in future vids.

Jinkwie: I've played WoW from beta3 until LOTRO started public beta. WoW is the MMORPG top dog at present. You can't fault Blizzard of a great game and success. I was drawn to LOTRO from the Tolkien novels and of course the recent movies. As a player in this world, I get to touch some of the storyline. It's a change from WoW and worth a look. If you can only pay for one at a time, I understand. Play the 7 day trial. Buy the game if you like, prices have dome way down. If you like it, ice WoW for a spell, your WoW characters will still be there :-) if you decide to return.

This is an Example of ABC sync play using the in-game fellowship music. Although Fellowships (groups of player characters) are normally used to accomplish quest tasks in LOTRO, they can also be used to form bands that can play ABC notation songs in sync for other players to enjoy.

We really need a 4th band member to fill out this group.
