  • Megazord Level 46 11 months ago

If you have epilepsy you don't play video games. I'm pretty sure that's shown before most GC games right?

    uuhhh....
    1. Videogames cause depression
= School causes depresion not videogames...
    2. Videogames make boys into passive consumers
= Bdung i am rather proud of my imagination, also videogames morelikely increase the imagination of your children instead of decreesing it
    3. Contains unrealistic body images of women
= Uhh.. so do fashion magazines, tv and nearly anything. everythings is photoshoped nowdays. so this ones pointless
    4. Burning calories
= Not every single kid plays videogames whole day, usualy they use the time they would watch tv to play videogames instead.
    5. Addicted parents
= i only know of one such ocasion and instead you should be focusing on alcohol and drugs which ruin milions of families instead of games that do it to one family in milions...
    6. Impact on reading and home work
= this must be monitored by parents, before videogames children watched tv instead nothing has changed it is the parents responsibility .
    7. Seizures
= sure... so do tv shows....
    8. Skipping work and school
= most of people skip (work/school) at some point of their live to keep a day off, some play videogames some watch tv others go to city for other activities (yet again this is only a matter of activity the specific person does)
    9. Agresive thoughts
= only on kids that play way to violent games for their age rating, also they usualy only affect very young players. yet again parents responsibility to see that their kids play apropriately rated games for their age
    10. Addiction
= everything can get addicting if you let them get over proportion yet again something that should be monitored by parents...
    11. conection between videogames and massmurderers
= and before that experts found stuff linking to tv shows/movies that are violent, along time before games did it.... usualy if a person becomes a mass murderer they have something seariously messed up in their childhood...

It all sums up in one place, most of the issues young people have which regard videogames are because their parents wherent there to monitor the usage enough.

Parents should realy get to understand gaming alot more and understand to give certaint limits.

"About half the video games contain unhealthy, unrealistic cody images of women" Umm...Who cares about that?

  • OmegaGrunt Level 15 October 17, 2008

people that die or do harm based on something in a video game are sick people, you cant blame the video game companies for everything. if killing something in a video game makes you want to kill someone in real life, you need help. if you are putting playing games higher on your priority list then eating or sleeping, its you that needs to be checked out, not the people who made the game.

do you blame weapon manufacturers for shootings? i dont think so >.>

ANYTHING that you overdose or take too much of can be dangerous. Do you know that a lot of people die because they drink too much water after excercise? BAN WATER ITS DANGEROUS!

1:44 proves that this guy has no idea what he's taking about.

The allegations of the Video Game influence in the VT massacre proves that this guy is a ignorant, book-waving idiot. I've played video games since I was 5, and I've turned out fine. I'm not fat, I've never played hooky, have never had a academic class (or lower), and am well on the way of making more than you ever will. Dumbass.

I actualy learned ho to read from video games thanks to this I'm 11 years old ith the average reading age of a 19 year old! The words I learn from it, My vocabulary is now as an average 16 year old

  • kendude Level 8 October 05, 2008

I laughed at this.. instead of being laughed at because you're a retard, maybe do something about it!

  • ChaosPower Level 5 October 04, 2008

Yeah, replacing "video games" with "Jack Thompson" is nice. A few modifications and it turns out well.
"Jack Thompson only burn about 140 calories an hour for an average 200 pound man".
"About half of Jack Thompson contain unhealthy, unrealistic body images of women"
"Addicted parents have starved their children because they were so obsessed with Jack Thompson"
"Jack Thompson have caused seizures, and tendonitis"
"Experts found a connection between violent Jack Thompson and the mass murder at Virginia Tech"

  • CharlesCunning Level 8 October 03, 2008

I'd post a comment about how riduculus the video was, or how there's more sex and violence on tv shows these days than in video games, but those things have already been pointed out. Good job everyone!

I only want to add this: a few decades ago they were talking about how Rock 'n' Roll was the devil's music, and it only proceeded to give free advertising to Elvis. So please, for our sakes, go on preaching.

People cause bad things to happen. Don't put the blame on something like video games and television. You're just allowing yourself to be controlled by an insignificant object. If people take responsibility for what they do, instead of blaming it on violent video games and tv shows, then maybe we'd get a handle on the REAL problem. It's not our fault that someone cannot turn off their game console, tv screen, or computer, and realize that play time is over, it's time for work. And when youngsters are involved, and actually learn from the game itself instead of the parent, well that's just poor parenthood. Grow a spine, tell your kids "no", or at least talk to them about it. Video games are for fun and a reality escape, nothing more.

I know there are antisocial people in the real world, I know there are antisocial people who play games, and there will continue to be antisocial people with or without games. In games these antisocial tendencies tend to manifest more recognizably than outside of games because of the lack of real world consequences for actions in the gaming environment.

I have to say that I disagree with your position on that games cause people to be antisocial. If the only stimulus a child receives is from antisocially themed video games, then maybe I could agree with you, however this is a very rare situation (if it exists at all). Any individual that is only stimulated through one medium is going to be less capable than one who has experience with multiple stimuli.

You can learn from these games as well, if you don't just look at the surface, which most players are capable of doing.

To give some examples here are a few things I have learned from Video Games:

    1) Time critical problem solving.
    2) Basic economic theories.
    3) Not all problems can be solved alone.
    4) Strength of teams in solving problems.
    5) Not all simulations are accurate.
    6) Several memorization techniques.
    7) There is always more to learn.
    8) Risk assessment.
    9) Allocating resources.

Did all of these just come from games? No, but through these simulations, and use of extrapolating patterns in one venue and applying them to another, video games have assisted in advancing my cognitive abilities.

Really? Videogames make boys unimaginative? How the hell? Citation needed. I really think that playing in god damn FANTASY WORLDS where there are ORCS and ELVES really help the whole imagination thing, don't you think?

Oh no. Anything but "unrealistic body images of women."

I don't see how 140 calories/hour for a fully grown man corresponds with the unhealthy for CHILDREN title. Nevertheless, is reading a book much better?

Starved their children? That's not exactly a commonplace occurrence.

The homework thing is just stupid. Kids will do anything but homework. If not for videogames, they'd go and play outside. Honestly, it's just because they don't like homework.

The seizures thing is stupid. Lots of things cause seizures, but they shouldn't all be banned.

People often skip work and class to go to parties/just for the hell of it.

While I can't prove or disprove whether or not kids who play videogames are more aggressive, I can safely say that between the people I know who play games, and the people I know who don't, they're just about even in aggressiveness. (Although, the non-videogame group is certainly a bit more rough.)

As addictive as heroin? I've never seen someone curled up on the floor, just waiting to get their next fix of Counter Strike. While they may be addictive, they're certainly not as dangerous as heroin.

Experts have found a connection between the mass murder at Virginia Tech and having hair on your head. Don't be an idiot.

They're videogames, of course they "twist the truth." So do books. Of course the companies are interested in making money. It's BUSINESS.

It's people like you that make me lose faith in the human race. It's people like you who make me depressed, knowing that our race is doomed to eternal stupidity. Not videogames.
