    Roerram says:

I know there are antisocial people in the real world, I know there are antisocial people who play games, and there will continue to be antisocial people with or without games. In games these antisocial tendencies tend to manifest more recognizably than outside of games because of the lack of real world consequences for actions in the gaming environment.

I have to say that I disagree with your position on that games cause people to be antisocial. If the only stimulus a child receives is from antisocially themed video games, then maybe I could agree with you, however this is a very rare situation (if it exists at all). Any individual that is only stimulated through one medium is going to be less capable than one who has experience with multiple stimuli.

You can learn from these games as well, if you don't just look at the surface, which most players are capable of doing.

To give some examples here are a few things I have learned from Video Games:

    1) Time critical problem solving.
    2) Basic economic theories.
    3) Not all problems can be solved alone.
    4) Strength of teams in solving problems.
    5) Not all simulations are accurate.
    6) Several memorization techniques.
    7) There is always more to learn.
    8) Risk assessment.
    9) Allocating resources.

Did all of these just come from games? No, but through these simulations, and use of extrapolating patterns in one venue and applying them to another, video games have assisted in advancing my cognitive abilities.

    ChickenSalad says:

Really? Videogames make boys unimaginative? How the hell? Citation needed. I really think that playing in god damn FANTASY WORLDS where there are ORCS and ELVES really help the whole imagination thing, don't you think?

Oh no. Anything but "unrealistic body images of women."

I don't see how 140 calories/hour for a fully grown man corresponds with the unhealthy for CHILDREN title. Nevertheless, is reading a book much better?

Starved their children? That's not exactly a commonplace occurrence.

The homework thing is just stupid. Kids will do anything but homework. If not for videogames, they'd go and play outside. Honestly, it's just because they don't like homework.

The seizures thing is stupid. Lots of things cause seizures, but they shouldn't all be banned.

People often skip work and class to go to parties/just for the hell of it.

While I can't prove or disprove whether or not kids who play videogames are more aggressive, I can safely say that between the people I know who play games, and the people I know who don't, they're just about even in aggressiveness. (Although, the non-videogame group is certainly a bit more rough.)

As addictive as heroin? I've never seen someone curled up on the floor, just waiting to get their next fix of Counter Strike. While they may be addictive, they're certainly not as dangerous as heroin.

Experts have found a connection between the mass murder at Virginia Tech and having hair on your head. Don't be an idiot.

They're videogames, of course they "twist the truth." So do books. Of course the companies are interested in making money. It's BUSINESS.

It's people like you that make me lose faith in the human race. It's people like you who make me depressed, knowing that our race is doomed to eternal stupidity. Not videogames.

I have a girlfriend. I am a pretty good writer. I was accepted into the top band class at my school playing the flute. Now, tell me; am I depressed? Am I obese? Do I under-exercise? Am I a violent person? I don't believe I have to answer these questions.

    Adreen says:

Completely untrue. First of all, all video games come with a label saying you should consult your doctor before playing video games if you have or have had seizures caused by flashing lights and/or movement. Second, look at TV. I can't even begin to name the substantial amount of violent TV shows, some of which are meant for young children, such as Transformers Animated. Third, reality is millions of times more likely to cause depression in a person. "Oh no! I lost to Bowser again! Maybe i should kill myself". You just don't hear that. And fourth, i think you're missing the point of a video game: to have fun. Not accomplish anything? Well, yeah. But do you accomplish anything by watching a violent TV show either? Hell no!

    -Reality causes depression

    -Women unrealistic?Hence being fictional works

-Homework not done = anything that takes someones attention, not just video games

-"Flashing lights" have caused seizures, video games just happen to have what was already there.

-People often skip work and class to do anything that's important to "them",football games, friends parties etc.

-People exposed to violent things will not become violent, violent people who are exposed to violent things will DEFINATLY do something violent.

-Experts found a connection between the fact he watched tv and killed a bunch of people,as well as the fact he went to the toilet 3 times a day,it's irrelevant.

You bring no valid points other than the imagination points made,tv does the same, anything pretty much does this, apparently gamers are the stubborn ones, what non gamers don't understand is that you're blaming gaming, when the exact same thing can be applied to almost anything, but the latest "fad" at the moment is to blame video games.Wait for the next succesfull thing since tv and games to come along, and then that will be the next thing to blame, instead of games and tv.

As I said, other than the mental points, this whole video was irrelevant.Thousands are murdered each day by people who haven't touched a game in their life.A hanfull of murders happens by someone who happened to play games, the fingers point, and it's obvious that the games are to blame /sarcasm

Before anybody starts talking about how bad this or that is... about how kids are more violent then ever because of media and exposure, take a look at these direct from the Department of Justice

    http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/rape...
    http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/rob....

Also, take a look at this report: http://ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/iscs06....

If you see some of the graphs you'll find even more interesting results, for instance; Did you know that there is more theft and seriously violent crimes at rural schools vs urban schools.

They also found that more 9th graders are threatened and/or injured with a weapon... perhaps that paddle is still to be feared.

I'd like to see the sources posted in the description because I can't quite make them out due to video quality.
While I won't argue all of your points, I do want to argue some of your talking points that bugged me.
A first, let it be said that I do agree that 12 year old should not play stuff like GTA, and that video games, like everything else, are good in moderation.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong (couldn't make out the link), but I want to point out that the so-called "Expert" who found a connection to video games in the VTech shooting was most probably Jack Thompson I'm assuming. He is most certainly not an expert and often tries to put the blame on video games on any case that involves school shootings. In actuality, Investigators found no evidence of video games being involved in the VTech shootings.
    See this report here,
    Under Chapter IV.
    http://www.governor.virginia.gov/TempCon...

The parents who starved their kid or the guy who died from 50 hours of playing video games are isolated cases and those people are flat out irresponsible anyway.

Yes, you're correct about the way many games portray women. Soul Caliber IV makes me FURIOUS in that regard. But that didn't start with video games. Movies, television, and magazines like Cosmopolitan are just as much to blame.

And of course kids will skip out on homework to play video games. Remember doing homework when you were back in middle school? Remember how unfun it was? I know doing homework is important, and I agree, but you have to think of it from the kids' perspective is well. They'll do just about anything that's not homework.

tl;dr, Video games are not the evil, giant boogieman you and other people are making them out to be.

    CandaceHolly says:

I'm 26 years old. I've been playing video games since I was about 7 years old. I have never once hurt another person or, been violent with any malicious intent at all. I am a woman and, I've seen the images of women in video games. They are the same as the images magazines and television shows portray and, some in video games are better. I'm very aware of what *all* media does about a woman's image but video games are *not* the sole culprit. If anyone plays video games for an amount of time that causes them to miss out on work, school or causes them health issues then there is a problem with the person not the game itself. Games are meant as a form of entertainment and, a hobby. Anything in this world can be addictive. Again, video games are not the sole culprit of this issue. The major point you are missing is, you are doing what so many others do..you are blaming a thing or a creation for the problems of others. Once people (and parents) begin to take responsibility for their own actions...there won't be too much to blame. Jazz music used to be the bad thing, then came comic books, then came rock music, then came television, in 2008 it's video games. Who knows what's going to be blamed in a decade?

Really? Video games kill people? I find it hard to believe that a plastic disk could, out of it's own accord, get up, and kill a person. Also, I have never heard of a parent starving thier children because they are too busy playing video games. Even if it is true, that is not the video game killing them, it is the parents who don't know how to spend time doing other things than play games. Most games, if their eyes were to start to hurt, or started to get hand cramps, take a break for a while, do something else. Quite a few gamers, myself included, also enjoy a good book. I, myself, am a fan of the books my Max Brooks. Video games can be as addictive as heroin? WTF? I've never heard of someone going 200 miles through the rain at 4:00 A.M. to pay a guy $600 just to get Viva Pinata. And you put this on a gaming website, hoping to get a warm reception? 1:28- two words for that little "un-fact" of yours. "Fuck Off" i have played a lot of violent games. i mean who hasn't. and i am far from violent. in fact i run from more fights then duke it out. I don't have aggressive thoughts or have never thought of planed any violent behavior to anyone. so once again you have failed on epic proportions, don't you feel special

1:46- Jack Thompson isn't an expert and his so called studies are false. don't believe everything you hear in the media as most of it if not all is complete bullshit just to get ratings

1:51- no all they want is to bring entertainment to us, the players. and you know what, they have been successful all the way though these years.

so in closing, my opinion about video games? There perfect. ask anyone here and they will agree with me. they do NOT damage us. they do NOT make us violent, they do NOT make us depressed or anti-social, just because a few play a game for a few hours strait doesn't make him an addict. just means his enjoying the game and is being entertained by it. now that's the goal of video games companies. to ENTERTAIN!!

My Opinion About Video Games Now is: Go fuck yourself Dude, Mainly People who play them. Just like to play them for fun, People like you don't need to be always fucking breathing DOWN OUR FUCKING NECKS how do you like it if we told you not to do? Oh you should not go to work today because 10 reasons, Still its not going to stop you from Work Is It? So Why Fucking Post this here? Like I said Mainly, Go Fuck yourself My good fellow, Along with these things i should post reasons Why you should go against it, If not already posted by These Excellent Gamers WHO KEEP TO THEMSELVES AND NOT FUCKING BREATHING DOWN OTHER PEOPLES NECKS LIKE YOU.

    1) Videogames Do not Cause Depression, For fuck sakes have you played a video game online? Mostly All The time it Helps people, If people have problems they can talk to other people or "Chat" About it and they can help solve them, Fuck, It even Makes them happy sometimes.

    2) Grats on this one dude, Seriously how the fuck do you think were passive consumers when you also turned around and said they make us into aggresive ppl dumbass, Ok, For one Spore's going to be out, It allows you to make anything you want, Make a fucking Ball with 300 Eyes if you want, Its creative its YOUR choice, Along With Garry's mod Or Gmod, It allows us to build excellent Contraptions, Hell Its even fun to try a simple catapult you spent 5 minutes to do!

    3) Ok Just to tell you, Most of the 1/2 games theres more like 1%, And most of it is fucking parody games, When your thinking Unrealistic are you thinking of fucking mass Effect Women? Or Hell even others or Zombie Women In Dead rising, For fuck sakes, How do you know they're healthy or not? all normal video games that potray a normal women is normal, Not Annorexic like Paris hiltion or another top model, If you want to get why people are starving themselves its mainly because of Magazines, Not Videogames

    3) Basically when your Having fun and your reflex are increased or your nervous and sweating or on the computer typing like me 100 word per minute you should think this, How much do you fucking REALLY burn? At least its better than fucking Watching the TV all day not moving isn't it?

    4) No Parent has its right mind to fucking EVEN STARVE their own Children, When the Child wants something, Hell even Teenagers like me, They ask for it from their Mothers or Fathers, And what do they do? Even when their fighting Ragnoros Or Illidan? It Comes First Response to Feed the Kid, Whatever the fuck your doing in game you usually leave it, If its singleplayer Pause it, If its multiplayer, Well Who gives a fuck if you virtually die, you don't want your kid to die do you?

    4) Meh, Don't We FUCKING ALL? Even Office Workers like playing simple solitare, Besides it gives us a break and allows us to relax instead of tense up, If i'm tensed up for exams in the morning i usually play a simple Game to relax myself, I know i do 20% better (Test Mark Wise) When i'm relaxed.

    5) Note, If you have a seixure or Tendonitis or whatever it is, Their is normally A Logo On the box saying this "Do not play if you have seizures from flashing lights or something similar" most people read it and have the problem and say Oh well i'll play it anyway, Half of them Don't usually get seizures because The flash is usually nothing only once, Besides nowadays in most games you have an option to turn it off.

6)Thats only Fucking People with Bad Thoughts, In Virginia tech when the shooter was a little kid, he played games when he was young, Sonic it was, Nothing Wrong with him, it is said they're 2 extremes for guys and 1 extremes for girls but i won't continue, They also let our fucking stress and Anger killing something that IS NOT FUCKING REAL

    8) We Choose to play dumbass

    9) Don't Know what you Fucking Said there

In the end, You do fucking accomplish something, Look at MLG they win something dumbass, They're pro, Along with the Companies, The Companies (unlike WoW sry my opinion) Also want there players to BE happy and to earn money, but they want happiness come first,

Like i said earlier, WE DO NOT NEED FUCKING PRICKS LIKE YOU BREATHING DOWN OUR NECKS TELLING US WHAT TO DO

Well Bye! :) - Rant end

And for it to create any violent thoughts above the average the child, for political correctness, would already have a pre-existing condition yet unknown to the parents. I think this because I have yet to see with my own eyes the "destructive power" of video games on a youth's mind. I also find the fact that video games cause children become anti-social, angry, and obesity is up for discussion since obesity can be genetic. The reason for the un-healthy and unrealistic images of a woman's body is because SEX SELLS, it's a common marketing tactic of the hundreds used today to get impulse buyers to, well buy. So everyone should live the industry alone.

and Yes I know this is dumb replying to this video since this is only a copy but I wanted to state my opinion.

Yeah. Yet,lack of personal responsibility and parental control/guidance ISN'T a contributing factor in this. People have control over their own actions, believe it or not. Also, to the violent tendencies issue. The world was a WHOLE lot more violent long before video games came about. Baka......

The truth about video games is that you probably suck at them and therefore made this atrociously subjective video. There are no studies that will truthfully verify any of those claims. You are a tool of society for posting this. Go join MADD if you're such a bitch.

    Addictive as heroin!?!

HAH! Wow I hope your not serious.. It's not like people have withdraws not playing video games. Heroin is a physical addictiveness too. The only ever kind of addiction I can see anyone having over a videogame is mental, so compare it to some drug thats only causes mental addiction.
