Combat Arms beta

This is some game play from the Combat Arms beta, May 30 - June 6. Combat Arms is set to be a free-to-play online shooter from Nexon (the company behind MapleStory), with some as-yet unrevealed commercial aspect to the game. Most suspect non-competitive enhancements to game play, such as larger backpacks and the like.

Game play is mostly team death match and some simple objective-based stuff, like planting a bomb. There were only a limited number of maps in the beta. The game moves at a pretty fast pace, kinda reminding me of FEAR and even echoes of the original Doom. Finding a game is incredibly simple and involved on a few clicks from launch to action. There's some kind of weapons purchasing/upgrade thing going on here - I think I got "money' from XP, or maybe we got free money because it was a beta, I dunno. But you could buy your weapons for time periods - 1 day, 1 week, etc., and I just bought an AK47, a backpack, some armor and a few upgrades for the week and didn't mess with it much.

I suspect the game is going to be successful, because it's fun, It's free and it will run on crap hardware and still look nice. I ran it full detail on my main gaming PC, and it looked great, but also had it running on a Athlon XP mobile 1.4 with a Radeon 9600. I mean, it won't unseat Call of Duty 4 anytime soon, but for the price it's a fun diversion.
