1. I used Sony Vegas to get the subtitles, there`s lots of tutrials at http://www.youtube.com/ that can tell you how to add them.
2. I learned lots of effects by a guy named Dillonp23 at YouTube. You can watch his tutorials here: http://www.youtube.com/user/dillonp23?ob... (as long as you use Sony Vegas, but if not, I think there is some other tutorials for other programs as well at YouTube.)
