A list of known glitches in Halo 2

It is worth noting that most if not all of the glitches have been removed in Xbox Live updates which are required before being allowed to play online.

Halo 2 suffered from numberous glitches and exploits which allowed for some superhuman actions to be performed. These included the ability to fly the master chief through the air, grab objects straight through walls or clone yourself as a distraction. It was also possible to confuse the server and allow yourself a few seconds of invisible movement in online games originally.

The Flying Master Chief

The necessary items to trigger this glitch were simple.
1) An extra player
2) Energy Sword
3) A Warthog
4) An Extreme high point on the map
5) Useful but not strictly necessary to have a banshee so you can fly up to the extreme high point.
N.B. Most of the maps can have this stuff added if they don't contain it by default just by using the menu.

First thing's first, each player should grab one of the vehicles (Banshee, Warthog) and meet up at some point near the center of the map. The Player in the Warthog should be able to sit in the passenger seat and aim towards the extreme high point of the map.

The first player must get into the warthog's passenger seat while wielding the energy sword. The second player must approach the Warthog close enough that the first player may aim at the second player and gain the red reticle indicating they may lunge with the sword. The first player must press the right trigger (causing a small vibration but not actually running out of the warthog). The first player must not push any other buttons at this point.

Player two should make their way to the extreme high point and player one should take aim at them without pressing any other buttons in the meantime. The reticle won't turn red but one it's lined up player one can hit x and flying will ensue.

Alternate Flying Sword Move

To use this glitch, you need a rocket launcher and a sword. Randomly discharge all of your rockets. Now locate an enemy. When out of sword range take out your rocket launcher and aim at the enemy then repeatedly press Y and R switching from one to the other. If done fast enough, you will lunge at the enemy.

A Few Seconds of Invisibility During Online Play

This was relatively easy to achieve just by interrupting your internet connection for a few seconds in an unpatched Halo 2. During the downtime, while the server is trying to reconnect with your client, you can run into an enemy base or somesuch and when the reconnection occurs your character will teleport as far as other players are concerned.

Reload Faster

This works with all weapons. When you reload, wait until the magazine, rocket, or whatever is put in and as soon as it is, press Y, twice, as fast as you can. Your weapon should be fully loaded and ready to fire, if you watch some montages, you will see them doing it.

Big Master Chief

This is a glitch only performable in the multiplayer level Burial Mounds. You have to have at least 2 people (at least one of them being a Spartan) and a Wraith. Have one person (Spartan) stand over the position where the Plasma Pistol (or other weapon according to weapon set) and make sure they are all the way up against the burning pillar. Have the other person get in the Wraith tank. Get the person in the Wraith tank to boost into the person in front of the pillar. If done correctly the person that was rammed will fall under the pillar. Then if you look up a giant sized MC in the colors of the rammed person will appear out of the sky. The weapons they were carrying will also appear occasionally.

Weapon Glitch

When you get the plasma pistol go to the skull and charge the plasma pistol; hold x run to over the skull then back up and you will have no weapon. This only works with one gun

Hold 3 Pistols in Halo 2

First go to a level that you can get three pistols, such as "outskirts". Go pick up a pistol then switch to your second weapon and pick up dual weapons, such as two smgs. Go to another pistol and press x to pick it up. Now you have a pistol in your secondary and first slots. Now you can go pick up a third pistol and set it to your left hand (press Y to do this). You can get up to 144 ammo with three 96 ammo with the two and just 49 with one.

Infinite Active Camo

After getting the envy skull go through a checkpoint while in active camo mode. To be safe, use "reset to last checkpoint" so you can check if you did it right. Save and quit; then turn off the Xbox to remove the envy mode. When you reload your file you will find yourself with unlimited camo.

The Great Journey Level

When you come to the part where Johnson is in the Scarab, head to the shoreline, go in the water (Note: it is not a cliff!), and you should walk underwater without drowning.

Overloading Objects on the Map

It is possible to overload certain objects in many of the Halo 2 Multiplayer Maps. By overloading I mean removing it from the map altogether. You can overload most anything that is not actually connected to the map itself. Please note that it seems that you will need at least 8 others for this to work. The easiest example is in Zanzibar. There is a bridge that you can knock down to easily get to the sword on the large spinning wheel. Knock the bridge down and run to the end where it is squared off. You and all your teammates should bunch up as close as possible in the corner and look straight down at your feet. Make sure everyone is looking down and the bridge should overload and disappear. It will be gone for the remainder of the game/round. You can also use this overloading glitch on Midship(on the floating platform) and Foundation(there are two places in Foundation...the hanging construction beam and the hanging platform right next to the beam....however you may need around 12 others to overload that platform). These are the ones I have seen myself but there may be others in other maps so good luck hunting!

Reload Shotgun Faster

When you are about to reload your shotgun hold down R and hit X. Then let go of X and you shotgun will be in the firing position but it will still be reloading. You must have more than 1 bullet shot to do this glitch.

Skip Tough Brute Battle Before the End Boss

When you are flying around in the Banshee during the final level when you are giving support to your ally, you can skip directly to the final boss sequence if you are still in the flying after the door gets blown open. Fly to the right of the control center building and aim towards the bottom right and if you fly close enough you should get a white screen indicating that you have started the cutscene. When it's over you will be at the final boss without fighting your way to him.

Sword Cancel/Sword Canceling Tricks

The sword cancel is a very easy trick to accomplish. First lock on to your target with the energy sword. Then press the R trigger to lunge forward, but just before you strike the person press the X button. You see the lunge motion but your target is undamaged. This trick can be used to get to normally unreachable areas. Here are some Sword Canceling Tricks.

1. The Sword Launch- Get your target to stand at a higher elevation than you. Target them with the sword and use the Sword Cancel trick to launch straight into the air. If you aim at a platform higher than you can jump, you may be able to reach it with this trick.

2. The Rocket Sword Launch - Get your target to stand at an even higher elevation than with just the energy sword. Use the Rocket Sword Lunge to fly at your target. Just before you hit them press X to go flying even higher than before.

3. The Sword Cancel Elevator -This trick can be very difficult. First have one person have a sword. Get to a spot where you wish to get and that on top of that, is out of reach by normal means. Get the person without the sword to jump on the person with the sword's head. Then the person without the sword should jump into the air. Target the jumping person and Sword Cancel him. To get even higher repeatedly do this repetitively.

Use these three combined tricks to reach recently unreachable places.

Unlimited Sword Ammo

You can do this in any two-part Campaign missions (i.e. Outskirts and Metropolis). If you finish the first level of the two-part mission with a sword with no ammo, you'll start the next level with a sword that has unlimited ammo. Though the sword doesn't show up when you arm it, it still makes all of the sound effects and acts exactly like a normal sword.
