I was looking through this forum and saw the What is left of the Classic WeGamers thread and wanted some clearer input. I just got hired as the Product Manager, so my goal is to make WeGame the best product it can be for its users. I wasn't there for all the version updates, so I'm not sure what has changed throughout WeGame’s history. Here are some question for you users:

- What about the different versions, v1, v2, and v3, did you like and dislike? I remember seeing this site when it had challenges and levels, but I thought that was just ridiculous and it drove me away.

- Who are some users that were instrumental in the WeGame community and why did they leave? If you can, have them contact me.

- What features do you hope to see?

I'm not a big social gamer, but when I browse through videos here, I think to myself, "Damn, that's just not interesting". I hope to revamp the recommendation system, but what's more important is that there's quality content on the site. I don't like how you have to be VIP to upload HD content, but if there's a user that consistently uploads interesting videos, I would try to get them VIP status for free (let me know if you know of anybody).

Community is very important for any product, so hopefully I'll be able to improve it the best I can. For example, why can't I send private messages to other users? We are short handed and there are many new features we're planning on releasing in the next couple of months. That being said, we need more programmers, so if you know anybody, please let us now. If there's something you don't want to post on the forums, e-mail me directly at jon@wegame.com. With your help, WeGame could be a wonderful community.

Hey Jon, nice avatar, lmao.

Hopefully your aims are true, would be nice to see more community stuff injected into the site, despite what the staff have said in the past, WeGame did head in a different direction for a while, will be nice to see that amended.

That said, most of the people that left annoyed the hell out of me just out of sheer QQ and lack of decent constructive feedback, but then when they did give it constructively, there was nobody in place to take it in properly, or at least, it didn't seem like WeGame was listening. Vicious circle.

Let's face it. We've all been moaned at for not listening even though we are, sometimes you just have to give a over-exaggerated nod, it sucks but it helps.

Features? Um, more community stuff really. That's all I want, I don't think I'll ever use the recorder because I do 1080HD videos, though I recognise its usefulness for other players.

There was a "Challenge" feature where you could say "What's the best FPS" and everybody would suggest something and the winner got gold, that was a awesome feature, it just ran out of categories quickly, and now that gold is removed, it'd be pointless anyway.

Maybe a fun, more long-term version of that? Other than that, I'm really crap at suggestions :).

Welcome to WeGame anyway.

Howdy!

Feel free to contact me on my wall if you have any problems! For help regarding the WeGame site or client, please e-mail help@wegame.com

Well ... pretty much the only reason I don't use Wegame instead of Fraps is because I can't record my own voice (with my microphone) along with computer sounds (Stereo Mix). I Skype a lot with my friends when I play games, but when I record it I will only hear they're voice and not my own, which makes it rather ... [insert negative word here]

Oh, and good thinking putting it as an event/announcement on Steam I wouldn't have noticed it since I don't check this site anymore (got my hands on too much stuff atm).
Try to use it more.

Didn't Wegame have a TF2 server?

Hey mate it's always good to see a new face on WeGame (Especially the rare intelligent one :P) I'm glad you took an interest to the thread I made and happy to see that someone on WeGame is finally open to suggestions rather than dismissing constructive critisism as trolling.

- What about the different versions, v1, v2, and v3, did you like and dislike? I remember seeing this site when it had challenges and levels, but I thought that was just ridiculous and it drove me away.

Version 1: Version 1 was in my opinion offered some of the best parts of WeGame. It had the best community because it had the simplest additions, a good working website/client, and was constantly being topped up by Oxhorn. However WeGame did seem somewhat "incomplete" despite it being so good.

Version 2.1: Now Version 2 in my opinion had two parts, Pre-Store and Pro-Store. Version 2: Pre-Store was great, the community was at it's best point with the people from WeGame v1 and some nice, intelligent new people, it brought it some really sweet additions (Such as screenshots) and a nicer looking website. This in my opinion was WeGame's highest point.

Version 2.2: Then the store came in. Althought it did seem sweet at first, not many could see what it would bring. The Store soon became the defining point of the site, people did anything they could to get gold and buy free games. This also plunged the community into an irreversible rut. It attracted gold farmers that spammed the site to get gold and free games to sell on. It also made WeGame a big target for advertisers and any old idiot that posts once before never posting anything again (You still see these people as the main ones on WeGame). The staff then tried to cover over the hole by bringing up unneeded updates when the website and client were falling into disrepair.

Version 3: This repaired some of the bugs of Version 2.2 and took a few tries to get the perfect layout for the website, however the community is still plagued by advertisement bots, people that can barely speak English and people that post the same thing once and then never report back to the site again. I am still waiting to see the silver lining in V3 and considering you are actually listening to the community (Unlike various members of the WeGame staff) I hope you can improve it.

- Who are some users that were instrumental in the WeGame community and why did they leave? If you can, have them contact me.

There were many that have left, particularly Zorlac666, Macrador, PenguinGeneral, Grundoko, theineffablebob, Mastrmind, Flashback, Blubo, Pin and GreasyLazor are the first intelligent ones off the top of my head. (Although Pin does like to troll :P)

- What features do you hope to see?

If you get in touch with Grundoko, he has some way of recognising ips/mac adresses of spammers and stopping them from signing up to the website. It would be quite cool to see that implemented on WeGame so the forums aren't clogged up with advertisement spammers.

I agree with you, in my opinion, the community is the most important part of WeGame. They are WeGame's customers after all.

Hey, I didn't leave! I just lurk now. :P

I liked the site better when it focused on game videos and screenshots. I know it's difficult to compete with a multi-billion dollar video behemoth like YouTube, but if you could somehow offer high quality 1080p video and put the focus back on those videos, then I think that would be pretty great.

The WeGame client is also a really instrumental part of WeGame but it's been evolving in the wrong direction. There should be more video recording and screenshot options rather than game tracking and libraries. Those are nice features, but those are 2nd priority in my opinion.

If the client could do simple video editing with custom audio as well as record 1080p video, for free, as well as maybe have an FPS counter, then I think it could be a competitor to FRAPS and would be very popular. Consequently, having the client be popular would bring a lot more traffic to the site.

I'm not a business person and don't understand how WeGame works, but I think changing WeGame in that way would give users a better experience.

I would love to be able to post HD videos, but 1) most computers can't handle recording at 1080p live and 2) we're a start-up and we can't afford the bandwidth costs, even at 720p. We're trying to figure out a way to share high-quality content while minimizing bandwidth costs and still have a simple user interface.

P.S. Broken product feature: Posting a comment on a wall (POST to /users/USERNAME/wall/save/) is returning a 200 OK but actually failing on the backend.

P.P.S. Replication latency is still around. Gotta refresh a few times to see edits. C'mon, guys. :-/

This. That video editing idea is kind of out of the question I'm afraid, but I understand why you want it especially since Windows 7 does not have Windows Movie Maker without going to the Live version.

I was waiting until the next weekly summary to report on the comments + wall post bug.

Also, I'm kind of surprised no one brought this up: people LOVED the 'best of the week' update vids that filled people in on what's new and rewarded those that made an effort. Every one of those vids hit the most popular section of the site quickly, and at the time the thought was they weren't worth the time since so few got something out of it. I personally wouldn't mind seeing a new one that introduces us to the new staff and so on.

I think it might even be worth it, perhaps, to have someone write a plugin for vbulletin to allow WeGame video imbeds that users of those boards could implement. Oh how I wish I could imbed vids on those - soooo many sites use vbulletin. As it stands though the auto-Youtube uploads work just fine.

In short everything that was added that people liked was removed.

Flash game recording? Gone.
Weekly video reviews? (people loved these) Gone.
Store? Gone (granted the store was a disaster, but handled by a better management team it would have been a major success).
A point for experience levels? yeah, there never was one.
Weekend gamedays? Gone. Even though they were mostly just on TF2 people still loved them.
HD recording? Made a pay feature after it was given to everyone for a while.

Now let's get started with the client. There have been so many issues with this that it truly surprises me that wegame is still around. Almost everyone here joined for the client, and it's a complete disgrace among video recorders. There's literally no incentive to use it over the competitions.

Also support. Basically any time anyone asked for support the threads were closed near instantly with the user being directed to email support. I will tell you from personal experience that if you get a reply from the Wegame email support you should consider yourself lucky. I submitted around 30 issues in my time using wegame. I would say only 5 of them got a reply, and only 1-2 of them were fixed. In short, the wegame client and site support became well known as a complete and utter joke. If you had an issue you couldn't post about it, and you knew your email wouldn't get answered, so most people having client problems just left the site all together. Client uploading has been hit or miss since the client came out. Basically you were lucky if your screenshot/video uploaded without giving an error. Game hooking has also been problematic since the client came out. In short it works when it wants to, and you couldn't get help as your forum posts would be closed, and the email support would not reply to your emails a large percentage of the time. It was (and may still be I don't know) a never ending cycle of , client's broken, don't post on the forums, email us instead, but we don't reply to the emails, so what does the user do now but post again, and start over?

Also forum moderation was a massive issue. The site went through quite a few MONTHS of MAJOR issues with a large group of users causing extensive problems for everyone that that could, and little to nothing was done about it. Many users left because of them

In short the site was managed amazingly poorly. There were times when the staff would actually insult users for mentioning the client issues, or poor support. Kromus stated above that there was a lot of QQ, but being straight up honest a lot of the QQ was very justified. I've been using the internet for as long as it's been available for wide personal use (midish 90s or so0, and in all my time on it this has been one of the most poorly managed sites, and clients I've been a member of. And that's why I was so vocal about it. I loved this site, and the majority of the community. I loved when the staff was involved with the users, but sadly that didn't last very long. I'm not accusing, or making assumptions, but from a users point of view staff involvement with the community died off extremely quickly once wegame became "successful". Support died, game days died, and almost all involvement with the users through the forums died. I say almost all because gorndt would still post on occasion to tell me how wrong I was for mentioning wegame's problems. He occasionally talked about games too which is the times I really enjoyed him interacting with the community. Btw I'm not trying to just single out gorndt there, I'm just giving examples which is what you asked for.

In the end, a poor client with even worse support with a site that was a mess, and a community that was rowdy and not moderated drove a TON of people away from the site. The staff "seemed" to not care at all about the problems and were only worried with new features which would then be removed a couple months later because the staff didn't feel like upkeeping it, and dealing with the support problems anymore.
