Steam refuses to run with wegame client active.

Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere, but I couldn't find it if it was.
Anyway, I have the wegame client running fine, but I cannot get steam to appear. It does show up in the 'Processes' section of the task manager, but there is no other proof that it is there.
When I open Steam, I hear the "bing" noise that comes with an error message, but no message appears.
I'm running Vista 64bit on a pretty powerful computer (can't remember the specs :P)
Is there anything I'm doing stupidly wrong?
