User ranking system / Democratic featuring

I'd like to suggest a user ranking system based on the number of likes, videos submitted, and featured videos. This will help encourage users to submit quality videos in order to "level up". These ranks can be displayed in the forums as well as the profile page. It would also be better, in my opinion, for the featuring process to be democratized (like Digg and Reddit). I know the admins try to watch most videos, but once WeGame becomes more popular, this will be impossible. (Youtube gets 10 hours of videos every minute!) I suggest the 3 most liked videos each day be featured for now until videos start getting more likes. Admins can have a special section where they can promote videos. The "Watch" category of the site might have to be modified in order for this to work. We need more emphasis on popular newly-submitted videos so users can find them more easily. A list on the fastest growing video on the side would be nice. (example: http://digg.com/all/upcoming) |

Stop trying to put me out of the job :X Actually, I'd like this idea if our users were more active in rating content. It's pretty incredible to see a video get 4 likes without getting on the homepage or being involved in a contest. The margin is so narrow between widely liked videos and not that the algorithm used to select the videos would have to be so specific as to be useless, especially considering that I feature most stuff that's well-liked anyways.
Signature is currently undergoing bug testing.

Well I don't like the system here at wegame to do with the I like it, because not everyone wants to add it to their "Favourites" which is technically what it is, they just want to rate it.

I really like Reddit's system of separating the upmods and saves. I upmod whatever I find interesting and save things that are REALLY cool. |

I've thought about this a bit, and, while there would certainly be downsides to it such as newer members being intimidated by the high level members and high level members perhaps having too much "power", I think it could be a great idea. Like you said, it'll would definitely encourage users to submit quality videos in order to level up.

The points thing can be merged with a new referrals program where we get points for referring new users. I like the system at Kongregate where we get 15 points for referrals then more points each time that person levels up. http://www.kongregate.com/accounts/short... |

Did anyone think about Competition? Not only it would cause more wegamers to become Aggresive but some trolls might be adding to the mix. What i mean IS that wegamers could and would downrate some peoples (not all or even 5% were all nice but some of us a little to competitive) to 1 star out of # Trolls will come on here for "Fun" And downrate Everyone's movie to ruin them and to harrass players..Ex. "OMFG TEH SUXOR!" on a good movie without watching 1 minute of it. What i recommend to this is that players will have to watch the WHOLE movie, skipping back doesn't matter but skipping into the ending minute (or # of seconds/mintues) will make the Review Movie Tab Grey out so they can't access it, If They Have Rated a Movie in the # of minutes/seconds, the Rate Movie Tab will be Greyed out so they can't vote all at the same time. |

keyblock: There's no easy way to do what you're proposing. After our server has sent the video to your browser, we close the connection. We have no way to determine how much of the video you've watched. We could (possibly) use Javascript or have the flash player itself alert the server when you're done watching the video, but that relies upon good faith by the client. Someone could write a hack (e.g. Firefox plugin) that instantly sends back the "I'm done watching the video" signal after 1 second. It'd be a ton of work, it'd add even more overhead to the site operations, and it'd be too easy to get around.
