 Yea I also never played the original one but the videos for II look pretty sweet.

 StarCraft is considered to be one of the best RTS games ever made.

I'd highly recommend you at least play it once. I still play it to this day, and I started playing when it was released in 1998. It really is that addictive.

 Starcraft is good and all, but I prefer WH40k : Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. Their resource system is really well thought out and works extremely well.

 I would prefer C&C over any of those game's you just mentioned.

 Have you played COH? It's resource system totally gets rid of the "defend one big ass resource point" system. You actually have to stragetically figure out on the map where the base chokepoints and resources to defend are.

Also, C&C is awesome, but still seems to support one single unit spamming. It's hard to do that in COH.
