I think on o f the most addictive free MMORTS games ever is Shattered Galaxy. It's dated, but it's still really fun. read the wiki entry for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shattered_G... If that doesn't float your boat, you might want to try Savage Online. It's a really interesting concept. Basically it's an RTS where one person controls the units. Everyone else in the server is one of the units and they can choose whether they follow their commanders commands or not. Kind of like BF2, only more of a fantasy setting and there's buildings and resources and all. http://www.s2games.com/savage/

None of the games mentioned in this thread are free. Empires isn't, and savage, and savage 2 only have free 5 hour trials. Do you know an actual recent free RTS, or just free trials?

Shattered Galaxy is probably the closest thing you'll get to an MMORTS imo.

@Zorlac: My basd, you are right, Savage isn't free. Weird I guess they started charging,b ecaus eI remember playing it free for quite sometime. Anywho it's so so anyway. But Poita is right. Shattered Galaxy is "free" (in the traditional Korean game sense in which you can play free or pay for cooler crap). I'd recommend that one. Chance are if you do give it a try, that battle music of there's will get stuck in your head quickly. :D You only get to control a squad in the game, but there's still a bunch of tactics involved and cooperation with your team mates. It's kind of like DoW int hat the object is to control control points. Here's a chill video:
