Dear Gorndt and Jared.
Let me ask you a question. Why the hell do you think that you need some special camera to record a 3D movie?
Heres how 3D movies work-Its actualy a normal movie wich has been edited. Its split into 2 identical pogections. Each progection is with a tint. One is blue and the other is red. Then the 2 progections are spaced from eachother. When you put on the glasses one side filters out the blue image and the other side filters the red image.Since the tints have been neutralised on both sides the brain recieves normaly coloured images.BUT since they are apart the brain getts fooled that it is seing a 3D image instead of a 2D image. This happens thanks to the displacement of the progections.
On the side note.I do not pelive that 3D movies are possible on the computer or any system that works on a similiar principal for the fact that the PC monitor can progect only 1 colout per pixel therefore it cannot create the "stack" effect that happens with the progectors in the cinema.
Please note that Im not a pro at this and might be completely and utherly wrong xD

actually you do need two cameras or a special two lens cameras, then you put those two images together. if you take one image and do it, it won't look as good. 3d programs can use more then one camera (or view) and this is how monsters vs aliens is possible.

Like wcd4231 said, you are right wowlord in some perspectives, but the quality is sacrficed by not using special equipment.

But thanks for the enlightenment since I too didn't fully understand 3D- they've already kinda invented a 3D thing for computers though, wowlord. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_O...

Its not the best but it aint bad either.

You could make a pseudo-3D effect through editing, but you need two lenses in order to make a real one. Think of the cameras as your eyes. To use an analogy, it's sort of like making an HDR with a single RAW file. Sure, you could simulate the effect by making that RAW file 3 different exposures in software, but the effect and quality aren't as good as shooting 3 separate RAW files at different exposures.

Also, 3D on computers definitely works. We've had 3D PC games since like 10 years ago. NVIDIA's support of it has been off and on over the years, but they've made a more significant push recently with their 3D VIsion hardware. The quality is significantly better since it doesn't just make the game red-and-blue, but it reads the game's z-depth buffer information or whatever and creates the effect based on that information. Only downside is that it requires a 120 Hz monitor.

Bob,by 3D on PC I dont mean like 3D models in games.I mean the once that fool your eyes that what your seeing is an actual 3 dimentional enviroment forming in the area your curently in,not if a computer can procces a 3 dimentional object

Yeah, that is what I meant. NVIDIA's 3D Vision does that.

Who the hell uses red and blue lenses anymore? Every 3D movie uses polarized lenses.

Nope. If the images are the same thing with different tinting, it will look like a photograph that's far away, not 3D. For that the images must be different. That's why you need the two cameras' perspective. With a computer game, the graphics card knows exactly where the objects all are in 3D so it's able to generate the two camera views simply by doing some math.

A pre-rendered video could theoretically work but it's only going to work with one method. If you watch a red/blue tinted 3D video with polarizing glasses it isn't going to work. NVIDIA's deal would have to output two videos then your playback would have to play them back in sync with the screen refresh.
