NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CBS) ―Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was found dead in a Nashville home Saturday after being shot in the head, according to police officials. A female victim was also found dead at the scene.

Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron said authorities don't yet know the circumstances surrounding the shootings. "It's going to take many hours to process the scene," Aaron said Saturday. "I don't have any answers for you now as to what happened, who's responsible or what the circumstances are."

The bodies were discovered in a condominium in downtown Nashville.

Aaron said investigators had tentatively identified the dead woman, but were working to confirm their findings.

According to CNN's legal analyst Mike Brooks, sources claim the woman is McNair's girlfriend who may actually own the residence. Brooks cites his sources as saying it was one of McNair's former bodyguards who discovered the bodies and contacted the police.

No suspects have been taken into custody. However, several people were being taken to police headquarters for questioning, Aaron told CBS affiliate WTVF-TV in Nashville.

Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams released a brief statement shortly after news of McNair's death broke. Adams called McNair "one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl."

McNair led the Titans within a yard of forcing overtime in the 2000 Super Bowl.

McNair was dealt to the Ravens in June 2006 for a fourth-round draft pick. He signed a five-year contract, but the QB retried from the game last year after being permanently sidelined by an injury.

The 35-year-old McNair guided the Ravens to a 13-3 record in 2006, his first season in Baltimore after 11 years in Tennessee. But he injured his groin during the season opener last season and never regained the form that enabled him to earn a berth in four Pro Bowls.

McNair began his career in 1995 with the Houston Oilers, who eventually became the Tennessee Titans. He led the team to four playoff appearances, including the Super Bowl after the 1999 season. He was named co-MVP of the league in 2003, sharing the award with Peyton Manning, after throwing for 3,215 yards and 24 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

Always horrible when you see not just the loss of life - but the taking of it.

It's always sad to see people die, especially when it was someone who was loved by so many. I hope they find the person who did it, and string them up by their toenails.

You made a double thread btw.

So many celebrities dead in the course of what, 2 weeks?

That really sucks, McNair was awesome. I also really miss Billy Mays )':

Also, apparently Jackson died from taking an exceptionally powerful painkiller that was prescribed to him.

Current Games: Borderlands and Torchlight. (Canceled Aion)

Yeah I've been hearing about the meds that were prescribed to him that he wasn't supposed to have. Looks like some doctor is going to jail for a LONG time.

I think the government should make a bombproof bunker and hide all the remaining celebrities in it. We have an invisible serial killer on the loose.
