A lot of discussion has been going on recently about the future and impact the machinima media and community will have on the media and entertainment. Personally, I think it will grow bigger, especially when talking about commercials. Blizzard has already used machinima to advertise their products and if for example Coca Cola teamed up with Bungie to advertise both of their products, machinima could be a nice and fun way to advertise it.

As a media as a whole.. I'm not sure.
What do you think..?

I think it'll grow bigger as resources get better -- once catacylsm is out they'll be much much more resources to play with and as people get better at it they get more professional.

Besides, there is some rubbish adverts sometimes, seeing as machinma as a advert isn't compleately dismissable depending on the quality.

It would be awesome if Machinima got more integrated into everyday media. I mean, the more good things people see in games, the less people blame them for stuff.

I think machinima will get bigger only in the Machinima community, but not in the bigger scheme of things.

I mean, why would you use machinima when you could use custom models and movements? Machinima characters can't move their mouths correctly!

3d animators atcully are considered machinmators, so pixar make machinma think about that, machinma dosn't always mean games so yeah i believe machinma is already professional.

Very true, nicely said :) and I agree with you. Only bad part is money, I am sure there are alot more machinimators out there with talent, but no funds for the gear to make them.

By technical definition. yes. Pixar is machinima. But also by technical definition this thread should not exist because "machinima" is already in the mainstream.

But for discussion sakes, machinima is 3D models of video games.

We all know this basically means that this conversation will end in one of us having to produce an extraordinary piece of work in order to prove a point >.>

*backs away

Machinima mode in uncharted 2,film theatre in Halo 3,it wouldn't surprise me to see something in Modern Warfare 2 if there was a secret mode for that (like the 3rd person feature).
Machinima will only grow if the developers create the gamespace and utilities for gamers to use in order to create machinima,it's as simple as that.
Rockstar created (for the pc version) the video editor and Rockstar social club, where people have made a lot of good movies,(go see machinima.com for an outstanding max payne style machinima located in gta 4 featured videos).
But the shame here is that you require a good pc to run gta 4 on the pc,it's horrible to install, and was a bad port.

We need one good game to come out, where it gives you the tools and scope to do it,unfortunately Uncharted 2 seems to have done that, allowing you to play animations and expressions at a button press, auto lip synching with a headset, but players on the playstation 3 don't seem to care much about machinima,I've seen a lot of Killzone 2 stuff, and a few things with Metal Gear Solid 4,but generally speaking,I don't know of a lot of playstation 3 machinimas,Halo and pc games seem to be the defining platforms and software to make machinima with.

My point basically is,we need a LOT more games that have machinima type modes in them if this is going to truly escalate further, and companies need to create special legal agreements in the EULA for allowing machinima,or at least state so on their site,so people who shy away might not do so once they know where they stand.
