Playing a bad guy, or villain on some games, has it's own mature style. Like someone said earlier, playing a hero is the same old crap. Save the world, rescue the damsel in distress, avenge family, blah blah blah. Then you have on MMORPGs where the "good guys" are dominantly played by children who want to be mature, but haven't quite figured it out. Other times they're played by adults who just think the costume is "purty". Villains on the other hand have gone through some very rough times. I'll admit, I'm into the whole evil and sadistic side of games. Also, villains allow most of us to do something that we can't do in real life without dire consequences, like in City of Villains imagining that the hero you're killing at the moment is the person who just pissed you off (such as your boss =) ). Then just send everything you got after them, in my case it would be a horde of zombies. Or perhaps being in WoW, and you imagine that the little gnome you just crushed was that same soul-sucking person, and you drain their soul. Or even in Godfather (I got it on PS2), imagining the same person and you just either choke them to death or throw them off a bridge, building, or in front of a moving car. So on and so forth.
