Well it will serve more then fine with todays games but the 8800gt will serve you much longer.
But maybe it is time for a totally new computer for you when that time comes.
And on x1950xtx. A friend of mine have a x1950xtx and he wasn't able to run Age of Conan on it so there's no feature in that card.

Rovanion is pretty much right. If you don't do major upgrades every half-year, you pretty much need a good performance / buck ratio, and the 8800GT performs amazingly well.

Dont have a clue about the performance on the nVidia 9k series but they base on the same chip so it's probably the same card but add on some of the fancy energy saving stuff.
