The GT is built on a newer and faster core. Performance wise, it is equal and sometimes greater than the 8800 GTS.

The GTS came before the GT and was therefore built on a older core (G92).

Other differences include memory bandwidth and VRAM sizes:
- 8800 GT come in 256-bit and 512-bit (rare). They are offered in 512 MB and 1 GB versions.

- 8800 GTS come in 256-bit and 320-bit. They are offered in 320 MB and 512 MB versions.

Definitely go for the GT. It is faster than the GTS, and cheaper too, if memory serves me correctly.

No, you're talking about the G80 8800GTS. Those are SLIGHTLY slower than the 8800GT, which is based on the newer G92 core.

The "8800GTS 512MB" (note 512MB) is based on the G92 core and is a really strong card, has much faster clocks for the core, shader and memory.

But remember that the ATi 4850 is performing better than a 9800gtx, notice gtx. Performs 20% better than the 8800gts.
And depending on where you buy it, the 512mb 8800gts and the 4850 will go for the same prize.

i was talking about value for money to people that wants to play new games with decent graphics.

if u want great performance and want to spend extra yes its worth it but to be honest. if u have a top gfx card and a poohey system then thats just a waste of a great gfx card.

If you're using it for media purposes great pc.

If you're using it for gaming,it's pretty good, but could do a lot better for only a little tiny weeny bit more juice from your wallet.

IMO,ditch the 8600 and go for an 8800gt,much more powerful and makes all the difference,an extra £30 ($60) investment gets you another year of gaming on high spec guaranteed.
As for the last thing wrong with it,the proccesor,I've used both intel and AMD,both at the same levels and on par,and I've always found that Intel has less problems with crashes during a proccess or any lag problems at all,AMD does quick bursts of intelligent thinking, which is ok for rendering and stuff, because it'll do the same amount in the same time as Intel, but Intel has a more consistent "medium" proccesing, which beats AMD at gaming,so whilst an AMD jutters a few on screen performances, the Intel will give you a "satisfactory" even basis to play on.

That's my opinion from experience anyway.
Dual core is good, but try and get a 3.00ghz it makes all the difference yet again.Or get a 2.8 and overclock to 3.00,that won't need any extra cooling and will give you the performance you want.
