start off just doing things like video comments and stuff, start out talking normal. once you get the hang of speaking on mic, you can start to try out different voices, like deeper and higher pitched voices. it may also help, if your imitating someone of a different area, you may want to listen to them talking before trying to immitate their accent

I use Wavepad.
Audacity pisses me off with its "recording on different lines" thing. When you record something long and then have to cut/paste into the same line, or keep setting the marker at the end of the last line so the new stuff doesn't overlap, and then I have to go into Wavepad anyway and edit it again...it's a hassle. Wavepad's a really good program, that's what I use.
