And how would you represent it in an artwork?

Wow that's deep, bapplebo. I believe the experience would be similar to the aftereffect of playing GTA. You really see the insignificance of human life.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm doing it for an art assignment at school. I'm going to make the image confronting, scary, questioning. I have a few ideas down, but nothing final yet.

Me personally, I would go with the idea of soldiers facing the horrors of hell. May be my dark sense of art, but it would seem very relevant. I assume you're doing a picture of sorts?
Who's seen hell?
Maybe in your dreams?
Or perhaps when you face
Your in-laws who are mean.
Many brave men
See it day to day.
And they never escape
No matter what you say.
Once you've seen
The horrors of war
The pain never quits
For your heart is tore.
Torture, screaming,
Pain all around.
Even at home
When there is no sound.
There is no other
Way to tell.
Of the horrs on earth
Directly from hell.
It's a little dark, but maybe it helps you understand one point of view. I would draw a picture, but frankly....too lazy. =)

Okay, I saw that one coming.

Hmm, it explains why I like sniper rifles so much.

Manipulative?

sure it shows up in art because warfare is full of emotions. frankly I find the concept of war in general outdated and really pointless but whatever gets you to sleep at night or proves you have a bigger penis. *shrugs*

War is a necessity of man, we are a violent people who may never fully understand the Utopian dream of total understanding or another person's differences. As long as we can classify someone as different than us, someone will persecute them. Man is an animal of dominance and control, what we can't control we destroy, or befoul. Personally, I have grown accustomed to war, and would gladly serve should anyone call, however, I am not one to seek death so I wait until the day comes when I am called to stand. War is humanities greatest creation, something standing the test of time, we constantly strive to find a more efficient way of killing another man. War is many things, a matter of pride, prejudice, honor, control, economics, and many others. Above all else war is the one thing that defines us and our history, have you ever noticed that time is divided up into periods of war, and not peace? The American Civil War, World War 1, World War 2, The Cold War (eh call it what you want), Desert Storm, Desert Shield, The War on Terror, etc.
Never forget to dance.
